Grand Rapids is village located along the Maumee River in Wood County, Ohio. Edward Howard and his three sons were the first to build in the area, constructing homes on the south side of the river, although the village was not platted until 1832, by John O. Graham, who named the community Gilead. Its name was changed to Grand Rapids in 1868.
