Located in the Great Black Swamp, Deshler is a village in Henry County, Ohio. A settlement existed there as early as 1854, although the community was known as Portage until 1865, when it was renamed Alma. In 1870, its name was again changed, to Deshler, after John W. Deshler, a prominent land owner. Deshler was incorporated in 1876.
