The city of Coshocton, Ohio is the seat of Coshocton County. The Walhonding River and the Tuscarawas River meet in Coshocton, forming the Muskingum River. In the late 1770s, Coshocton was the principal Lenape village in what was then Ohio Country. The village was known by the Lenape as Newcomerstown, for Chief Newcomer, who founded the community.
