Cincinnati, Ohio, is the county seat of Hamilton County, and was the first major city in the inland U.S. It is famous for its German architecture, and has an entire district listed on the National Register of Historic Places. One of its co-founders was John Filson, who was a surveyor, but more notably the author of The Adventures of Colonel Daniel Boone, who originally named it Losantiville, which combines four languages to mean "city opposite the mouth of the Licking River."
