Formerly known as Chippewa-on-the-Lake, the village of Chippewa Lake is in Medina County, Ohio. It is named for the natural inland lake on whose shores it is situated. The community began in the late 1880s, when Oscar Townshend developed a vacation resort there, called Chippewa Lake Park, which was shut down in 1978. The surrounding area, and even the villages of Gloria Glens Park and Briarwood Beach, are sometimes referred to as Chippewa Lake.
