Bowling Green, Ohio is the seat of Wood County. Its first settler was Elisha Martindale, who claimed forty acres in 1832, although the community was named in 1834 by Joseph Gordon, a postal carrier who had lived and worked in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Bowling Green was incorporated as a city in 1901.
