The village of Bolivar is situated in the Ohio county of Tuscarawas and is the location of the only American Revolutionary War era fort in Ohio, Fort Laurens. The village was named in honor of Simon Bolivar, the South American statesman and soldier who led Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Venezuela, Peru, and Bolivia to independence.
