Bethel is a village in Clermont County, Ohio. The community was founded by Obediah Denham, who named the town Plainfield, in 1798. Shortly after, the town’s name was changed to Denhamstown, honoring its founder. However, when the town was platted in 1802, its name was changed to Bethel. The village was incorporated in 1851, and its first mayor was Jesse Grant, the father of General Ulysses S. Grant, who would become the 18th president of the United States.
