The first settler in the area of Bedford Heights, Ohio was Elijah Nobles, who settled near Tinker’s Creek in 1813, with others following within a couple of years, including Daniel Benedict, who arrived in 1821, naming the area for his home town of Bedford, New York. Bedford Township was established in 1823 and, in 1951, Bedford Heights became an independent village, as a result of a close vote.
