Avon is a city in Lorain County, Ohio. The first American settlers came to what was then Township Number 7 in Range 16 of the Western Reserve in 1814, led by Wilbur Cahoon. In 1818, the township was organized and named Xeuma, and later, Troy Township. In 1824, the name was changed to Avon Township.
