Named for Amelia Bowdoin, a popular tollgate operator on the Ohio Turnpike, the Village of Amelia is in Clermont County, Ohio. Its first residents were sailors who came across the land while walking back after their boat had been sunk by the British. Daniel Rathbone was the first settler in what would be incorporated as a village in 1813. Prior the establishment of its first post office, the community was known as Milltown and Milton.
