In 1850, the Ohio communities of Freedom, Liberty and Williamsport merged to form Alliance, which was incorporated as a village in 1854. The Village of Mount Union was annexed to Alliance in 1889, at which time Alliance was incorporated as a city. Alliance is located in Stark and Mahoning counties. It is nicknamed the “Carnation City”, as Ohio’s state flower, the scarlet carnation, was developed there.
