West Fargo, North Dakota, in Cass County, is the fifth largest city in the state. The city sprang up out of an outgrowth of a packing company, in an area that was then called West Fargo. Due to a management change in 1917, employees were asked to move from employee housing, most relocating south of the highway to form their own village. The village was incorporated as Southwest Fargo, becoming a city in 1947. In 1967, its name was changed to West Fargo.
