Turtle Lake is in McLean County, North Dakota. The community was founded in 1905, and incorporated into Lake Williams Township in 1909. When Turtle Lake was established, much of the small village of Wanamaker was moved, building by building, to the new townsite in order to be closer to the railroad. Turtle Lake is surrounded by several lakes, including Lake Ordway, Turtle Lake, Cherry Lake, Lake Brekken, Lake Holmes, Lake Williams, and Peterson Lake.
