Founded in 1886 by Richard Sykes, a landowner from England, Edgeley was named was named for Sykes’ hometown of Edgeley, Cheshire. Sykes never lived in the community, but visited North Dakota often, founding five towns in the state, including Sykeston, Bowdon, Edgeley, Chaseley, and Alfred. The city is located in LaMoure County, North Dakota. Edgeley is southeast of St. George.
