Teaneck Township is in Bergen County, New Jersey. The area that was to become Teaneck was settled in the early 1700s, and the community that grew up along the east bank of the Hackensack River was known as East Hackensack, and sometimes New Hackensack. General George Washington passed through Teaneck after the Colonial defeat at the Battle of Fort Lee. Teaneck was formed as a township in 1895, composed of parts of Englewood Township, Ridgefield Township, and Bogota. Among a long list of notable Teaneck residents are Pat Boone and the Isley Brothers.
