The community of Sergeantsville is in Delaware Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. Named for Charles Sergeant, a soldier in the American Revolution, the community was established in 1827, when its citizens desired a post office. Prior to that time, it was known as Skunktown, but the post office refused to accept Skunktown as its name. The historic community’s annual “Thanksgiving in the Country” house tour brings visitors to four or five different homes each year, each with historical, architectural, or cultural significance.
