Originally incorporated, from portions of Egg Harbor Township, as a borough in 1889, Pleasantville, New Jersey became a city on April 14, 1914. Pleasantville is south of Absecon, north of Northfield, west of Atlantic City, and east of Mays Landing. Three major highways and the Atlantic City Expressway run through the city.
