Formed and incorporated as a borough in 1896, North Arlington is in Bergen County, New Jersey. originally part of what was known as New Barbadoes Neck, settlement in the area was urged after the opening of the Schuyler Copper Mine, which operated during the 1700-1800s. Its name stems from the fact that it was north of the Arlington section of Kearney. As the site of Holy Cross Cemetery, which has interred nearly 300,000 people since its establishment in 1915, as well as other cemeteries, North Arlington has more than twenty times as many dead people as living.
