The borough of Newfield, in Gloucester County, New Jersey, was established in 1924. Newfield is bordered by Franklin Township and Cumberland County. The town grew in population because of the influence of the railroad and the junction of the Atlantic City Spur, a double track all the way to the shore. Many of its early residents were employees of the railroad, and its passenger service brought others to the area.
