Formed in 1894, the borough of Leonia, New Jersey is located in Bergen County, near the western approach to the George Washington Bridge. The area was settled by European around 1668, mostly by Duth and English farmers, including African slaves, who made up about one-third of the population. Leonia is north of Palisades Park and northwest of Fort Lee.
