Originally established in 1749, Kingwood was incorporated as one of the original New Jersey townships in 1798. Kingwood Township is in western Hunterdon County. Captain Daniel Bray, from Kingwood, rounded up the boats for George Washington's crossing of the Delaware River during the Revolutionary War. Kingwood is east of Smithtown and north of Rosemont.
