Berlin Township was incorporated in 1910 from parts of Waterford Township and, in 1927, a portion of the township was taken to form Berlin Borough. The municipality’s name was originally Longacoming, named for a Native American Indian path called Lonaconing Trail, which European settlers took to referring to as Longacoming, which became the name of of the stagecoach stop and, later, the railroad station. In 1867, the station was renamed Magnolia, which was changed three months later to Berlin. Topics related to either the borough or the township are appropriate for this category.
