The borough of Andover is in Sussex County, in northern New Jersey. The community was incorporated by the New Jersey Legislature from parts of Andover Township in 1904. Prior to its incorporation, the townships of Andover and Hampton were set off from Newton Township, and comprised of a southern portion of the county, south of Newton, along what was then the Sussex Railroad, which ran northerly through Andover.
