Situated on the eastern shore of Lake Tahoe, in Douglas County, Nevada, the unincorporated resort community of Stateline is home to five casinos. Stateline and neighboring South Lake Tahoe are adjacent to one another, separated by the state line intersecting with US Route 50 right after the Harrah’s and Harvey’s casinos. Also known as the Kingsbury Grade, State Route 207 runs up and over a mountain pass, leading from Lake Tahoe to Gardnerville. Most of Stateline’s residential unites are along the Kingsbury Grade, which can be difficult to navigate in the winter months. The musician and politician, Sonny Bono, was killed while skiing alone in Stateline on Orion, a slope high in the Heavenly Ski Resort.
