Often known simply as Smith, for a family that settled there in 1859, Smith Valley is an unincorporated agricultural community in Lyon County, Nevada. Wovoka, a Paiute religious leader also known as Jack Wilson, was born and raised in Smith Valley. He founded the Ghost Dance Movement of 1890. The village of Wellington, which dates back to the 1860s, is located at the southern end of Smith Valley, near the village of Smith.
