Lamoille is an unincorporated town situated at the base of the Ruby Mountains in Elko County, northeastern Nevada, about seventeen miles east of Elko. The settlement began as a rest stop along the main Fort Hall route of the California Emigrant Trail, along the Humboldt River, although the first known permanent settlers were John Walker and Thomas Waterman, who came around 1865. Walker built the Cottonwood Hotel, a store, and a blacksmith shop there, and the settlement that grew there was first known as The Crossroads. A small church was constructed on the east side of the town, which continues today as The Little Church of the Crossroads.
