Named for the Glenbrook House Hotel, the unincorporated town of Glenbrook is situated on the eastern shores of Lake Tahoe in Douglas County, Nevada. The oldest settlement on Lake Tahoe, Glenbrook was the chief supplier of lumber to the Comstock Lode and Virginia City. The Glenbrook Hotel, for which the surrounding community was named, was itself named for its two geographic features: it was in a glen, and there was a brook there. Glenbrook is west of Carson City, south of Incline Village, and north of South Lake Tahoe. Captain Augustus Pray, who arrived in 1860, was one of its first settlers.
