Fallon is the seat of Churchill County, Nevada. Both the city of Fallon and the county are primarily agricultural, its land irrigated by the Truckee-Carson Irrigation District, and its principal crop being alfalfa for livestock feed, although its cantaloupes were once distributed throughout the United States. Today, the area’s primary employer is Naval Air Station Fallon, a U.S. Navy training airfield. Eastbound travelers along US Highway 50 have to travel 110 miles from Fallon before they reach the next town, Austin. Seven miles east of Fallon is the Grimes Point Petroglyph Trail, featuring rocks with carvings estimated to be eight thousand years old, and part of a much larger archeological complex. The unincorporated settlement around the Naval Air Station, known as Fallon Station, is included here.
