Situated on the Nevada, Oregon state line, in Humboldt County, Nevada, Denio is an unincorporated community. A portion of the residential area considered to be Denio extends into Oregon, and there was formerly a Denio post office in Harney County, Oregon. When the larger portion of the community moved across the border into Nevada, the post office related, as well. Denio also includes a community center, school, library, and the Diamond Inn Bar, and the area attracts rockhounds as well as people who have come to visit the hot springs. Denio Junction is about two mile south of Denio, at the intersection of Nevada Routes 140 and 292, which includes a motel and airport. Denio was named for Aaron Denio, who settled in the area in 1885, living there until his death in 1907.
