Situated on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, Crystal Bay is an unincorporated community in Washoe County, Nevada, near the California border. The community of Crystal Bay began in the 1920s and 1930s, as people began building summer homes in the Lake Tahoe region. While several homes ringed the lake, there were insufficient roads to allow convenient travel. The first homes built in the area were intended as mountain hideaways. Casinos that were built along the California-Nevada border attracted a string of mobsters and confidence men, but they also brought permanent residents and better roads. Today, Crystal Bay shared a strong connection with Incline Village, also on the shores of Lake Tahoe.
