Situated along the Amargosa River, Beatty is an unincorporated town in Nye County, Nevada, along US Route 95, between Tonopah and Las Vegas. State Route 374 connects the community to Death Valley National Park, about eight miles west. Once the home of the Western Shoshone, the current town was established in 1905, and named for Montillus Murray Beatty, a Civil War veteran and miner who established a ranch there in 1896. The town is home to the Beatty Museum and Historical Society, and the ghost town of Rhyolite and the Goldwell Open Air Museum are about four miles west of Beatty, and Yucca Mountain and the Nevada Test Site are about eighteen miles to the east.
