The village of Dalton, in Cheyenne County, Nebraska, was founded in 1900, when the Nebraska, Wyoming and Western Railroad extended its line to the area. The area began to be settled in 1899, as one of the railroad’s work stations, with the railroad constructing a depot, section house, water tank, and stock pens. The community was incorporated as a village in 1909, by which time Dalton already had two elevators, hotels, livery barns, churches, and several stores. A newspaper, The Dalton Herald, was published from 1914 to 1951, and Dalton had its own hospital from 1925 to 1969. Dalton is north of Gurley and south of Bridgeport.
