The city of Lake Winnebago is in Cass County, in west-central Missouri. Lake Winnebago was incorporated as a village in 1963, and as a fourth-class city in 1975. The city is concentrated around the northwestern part of the lake, which continues to the east and south. Missouri Highway 291 runs north and south just west of the city, and the James A. Reed Memorial Wildlife Area is to the northeast. Lees Summit is about ten miles north of Lake Winnebago, and Overland Park, Kansas is twenty-six miles to the northwest.
