Green City is in Sullivan County, Missouri. The city was founded in 1880, when Henry Pfeiffer, an area farmer, commissioned a surveyor to lay out the town in a cornfield, in anticipation of the Quincy, Missouri & Pacific Railway extending its tracks to the area. A rail depot was constructed, as well as a store and warehouse, and a frame building was moved to Green City from nearby Kiddville to serve as a post office. Green City was incorporated in 1882. Green City is located along Missouri Highway 6 and Route 129, north of Mystic, northeast of Sorrell, northwest of Sticklerville, south of Pennville, and west of Danforth.
