Laid out in 1881, the city of Fordland was named for J.S. Ford, a railroad official. Fordland is in Webster County, Missouri. The Fordland Air Force Station operated east of the city from 1951 to 1961, as a general surveillance radar station. Today, the site is the Ozark Correctional Center, a minimum security prison that is sometimes referred to as Fordlands Honor Camp. Fordland is located along US Highway 60, northwest of Finley Falls, and less than thirty miles east of Springfield.
