Byrnes Mill is situated on the Big River in Jefferson County, northeastern Missouri. Named for a large grist mill operated by Patrick C. Byrne, who bought farm land near House Springs and opened a store on Big River in 1859, buying the grist mill six years later, and also operated a large farm near the mill property, and later a summer resort. Byrne served as district assessor, justice of the peace, and associate judge of the county court. Although the mill is no longer there, the mill site and much of the surrounding land is now owned by the city of Byrnes Mill and known as Byrnes Mill City Park. Byrnes Mill was incorporated as a city in 1986. Byrnes Mill is located along Missouri Highway 30, south of High Ridge, west of Rock Creek, northeast of House Springs and Scotsdale, and southeast of Eureka.
