Ottawa Lake is an unincorporated community in west-central Whiteford Township, Monroe County, in the southwestern Lower Peninsula of Michigan, near the Ohio border.
As an unincorporated community, Ottawa Lake doesn't have defined boundaries, but it is concentrated in the area of Memorial Highway and its intersections with Ottawa Lake Road, Beck Road, and Railroad Road. The west portion of the Whiteford Valley Golf Club is in the eastern part of the community, while the Big Ravine Drain flows through the southern part of Ottawa Lake.
The nearest incorporated municipality to Ottawa Lake is the city of Sylvania, Ohio, just over four miles southeast. Other Ohio localities within twenty miles of Ottawa Lake include Richfield Center, Ottawa Hills, Holland, and Harding. Incorporated Michigan communities within twenty miles include Blissfield, Deerfield, Petersburg, Dundee, Luna Pier, and Adrian, while the unincorporated Michigan communities of Whiteford Center, Riga, Saint Anthony, Lambertville, Liberty Corners, and Temperance are within ten miles.
The Erie & Kalamazoo Railroad built a railway line through the area of Ottawa Lake as early as 1836, which later became part of the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Railway, connecting Toledo, Ohio to Adrian, Michigan. Ottawa Lake once had its own train station. No longer in operation, the tracks have been removed and replaced by the road known as Railroad Road.
A post office, still in operation, was established on June 12, 1846, with John Wilder as postmaster. Currently, the post office serves most of Whiteford Township and parts of Riga and Bedford townships. The community was named for a lake to the north which has since gone dry.
The Ottawa Lake Volunteer Fire Department provides fire protection and emergency response services to the community.
Whiteford Agricultural Schools provides K-12 educational services to all of Whiteford Township and a portion of Riga Township. It's one school building is east of Ottawa Lake, nearer to Whiteford Center.

Legacy Golf Club in Ottawa Lake, Michigan
Spread across two hundred acres, with five lakes and an island green, the 18-hole golf course was opened in 1997. Michigan Technical Resource Park
The privately-owned facility is in Ottawa Lake, in southeast Michigan, just north of Toledo, Ohio, and less than an hour from the Detroit Metro Airport. Offering on-road and off-road vehicle testing, vehicle and product development, technical labor services, and logistics and warehousing, MTRP includes a 113,000 square-foot industrial facility with a 400-seat auditorium, and technical education rooms, executive office space, conference rooms, track-side offices, and a banquet hall.
