Located in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, the town of Sharon was settled in 1637 as part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. It was named after the Sharon Plain in Israel due to its lush forestation. A statue in front of the public library is of Deborah Sampson, a Sharon woman who disguised herself as a man in order to fight in the American Revolutionary War. Deborah survived the war and came home where she married Benjamin Gannett and lived the rest of her days.
