Originally settled in 1642, Edgartown, Massachusetts is located in Dukes County. It was first called Great Harbor and, along with the town of Tisbury, was one of the two towns on Martha's Vineyard. The name was changed to honor the three year old son Edgar, son of King James II of England, who died in 1671.
