Indianapolis is the capital of Indiana, the seat of Marion County, and the largest city in the state. Its name was devised by a joining of "Indiana" with "polis", which is Greek for "city". Most of its history has revolved around government and industry, particularly manufacturing, although the city is recently creating a more diversified economy.
