The state of Georgia was one of the original thirteen colonies, established in 1733. The fourth state to ratify the Constitution, it was also one of the original Confederate states, seceding from the Union in early 1861, and the last one to be readmitted in 1870. Nicknamed the Peach State, it is served by the capital city of Atlanta, which is the largest city in the state.
