The city of Port Richey is located if Florida's Pasco County. There are virtually no written records on the early history of either Port Richey or Hopeville, but oral history indicates that it was named in honor of early settler Aaron McLaughlin Richey, who founded the post office. In 1912, the Port Richey company gave away a free lot in town to everyone who purchased ten-acre tracts of farmland. The thought was that people would build their homes in town, thus ensure growth of the town.
