Longwood, a city in Seminole County in Florida, was doing so badly during the 1930s depression that it tried to disincorporate, but was unsuccessful. The town remained tiny for some years. Its population in the 40s was 427. In the 1960s and 1970s, the economy was wildly boosted by NASA and Walt Disney World employees and tourists., and according to the 2000 census, there were more than 13,700 people living there.
