Jacksonville, Florida, is the county seat of Duval County in Florida and is the largest city in the country in terms of land area. It was initially founded as Cowford due to its prominence as a place in the river across which cowboys once herded cattle. In 1822, one year after Spain's sale of the state to the U.S., it was renamed in honor of General Andrew Jackson, who was at that time the future President.
