Connecticut, which acts as a bedroom community for New York City, has two nicknames: the Constitution State and the Nutmeg State. Its capital is Hartford, and its largest city is Bridgeport. As far back as the early 1600s, two of its colonies had Fundamental Orders, which were documents which are considered the first constitutions on the continent. It was the fifth state to ratify the Constitution in 1788.
