The city of Sunnyvale, in Santa Clara County, is one of the primary cities in the Silicon Valley. In 1860, the San Francisco and San Jose Rail Road laid tracks through the area, and they established Murphy Station, and the town name morphed into Murphy. In 1901, the residents were informed by the Post Office that they could not call their town Murphy, and the citizenry chose to change the name to Sunnyvale. The city was incorporated in 1912.
