Signal Hill, California, is a small city in Los Angeles County. It was incorporated in 1924, approximately three years after oil was discovered there. It was named for the fact that it sits on a hill 365 feet above the city of Long Beach and was therefore used y the local Indians to set signal fires which were seen throughout the area.
