Santa Barbara, the county seat of Santa Barbara County, is a popular coastal resort destination in southern California, about 90 miles west and north of Los Angeles. It was named in 1602 by explorer Sebastian Vizcaino who was exceedingly grateful for surviving a particularly violent storm in the Channel on the feast day of St. Barbara.
