Monrovia, California, is situated in Los Angeles County. Nestled in the San Gabriel Mountains, it was incorporated in 1887 when it was dotted with orange ranches. Named in honor of William N. Monroe, an early landowner who helped to form the Monrovia Land and Water Company in 1886, and Monrovia was incorporated in 1887 due to prohibitionists who wanted to keep a saloon from being built there, and the first act of the new town government was to prohibit the sale of alcohol.
